Sigh, Teenager Nowadays

I went to an online game center last Friday to play Ragnarok Online. It was the War of Emperium schedule. When I entered the place, I didn’t see any available PC. But the keeper told me that I could get a vacant PC upstairs. It’s true, there were some available PCs there. I was going to go the corner when I saw two cute gals playing RO. And lucky me, beside them there was an empty seat. Soon I took the seat and turned the PC on.

While waiting my PC to boot up, I observed them. I am sure they are still in the high school. Maybe junior or senior. They are about 15 or 16 years old. From the way they played the game, I knew they were new players. The first girl played a female magician, but she didn’t know the correct spells to use on the correct monsters. The second girl who played a female swordie couldn’t find the Kafra NPC. I took the chances and told the magician girl some spells trick. Then I told the swordie girl the location of the NPC she’s looking for.

It worked. I managed to get their attentions. When I finally logged in the game and loaded one of my character, they were surprised at how high my character’s level was. Well I didn’t want to get that much attentions early, so I played my lowest-level character, but still they were amazed. Unfortunately they were not on the same server as me so we couldn’t meet in-game. For about half an hour, I gave them some clues and hints to play the game well.

Later, the War of Emperium begins. Well this one is what keep me playing RO so I put most of my attention there. I didn’t help the girls anymore and they seemed to know that I was busy with my own business. Good for us. I planned to go back to them after the War. While I was in war, however, I heard some. Well it’s usual in a place like that. But I noticed that I heard the cursing more and more and the source was near. Oh my God, it turned out that the ones who cursed were the girls beside me. Holy shit, they swore like there’s no tomorrow. Everytime their characters died, they cursed. Everytime they missed the monster, they swore. Everytime some monsters mob them, they screamed. Geez, the words were definitely not what I expect to come out from the mouth of cute teenage girls like them.

Well I know some people do like to curse for no reason. Even I got some friends that swears all the time. But I still can’t get it. I am definitely not comfortable staying near them. And honestly, I don’t think it’s a good habit. Especially on teenagers like them. If they keep doing that when they are young, they will do it for the rest of their life.

A Week with Me

Sunday, Nov 28: Timeline and Cold Mountain

Some days before, Carla lent me two VCDs, Timeline and Cold Mountain. When I played the movie, I quickly found out why she had it. Because Paul Walker was one of the actor. She has been a loyal fan of him lately. Timeline was a sci-fi movie about some archaeologists who travelled back to the past to find their leader. The setting was when English invaded Franch. Nothing special though, the story is easily followed and so predictable.

While Timeline is an under average movie, Cold Mountain is really a good movie featuring some decent actors and actresses: Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zelweger, and Natalie Portman. Ada Monroe (Nicole Kidman) and her father, a priest, came to a remote place called Cold Mountain. There she met Inman (Jude Law) and felt in love at the first sight. Soon, there was a civil war in America. Inman and the other young men were sent to battle. Having spent quite some times in the battlefield, Inman couldn’t resist his feeling anymore and decided to go home to meet Ada. Unfortunately, every man running away from the battlefield was considered a traitor and must be killed at sight. Hence, the journey was not a walk in the park.

Cold Mountain packs many romantic scenes, especially between Ada and Inman. A must see for every fan of love stories. Renee played so well as the servant of Ada that she got the recent Academy Award as the best supporting actress.

Monday, Nov 29: Milla Jovovich Gets an Upgrade

Around 5 PM, Jon suddenly asked me to go watch the movie with him. Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse. At last, I’d asked him several times before but he always replied that he didn’t have enough money. Luckily, we arrived at Galaxy Mall just before the movie began. I got two tickets for us at a very strategic position at the top row.

The movie started slowly but things changed when Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) got in a really cool action. It got even better when Alice (Milla Jovovich) finally kicked in and killed some zombies and creatures. Gosh, Alice was much better there than the previous movie. The story told that Alice and her friend had been injected with the T-Virus that mutated them and gave them a magnificent power. While Alice still got her consciousness, her friend didn’t and turned into a dreadful monster, Nemesis. IMO, this is the best action movie since Van Helsing. Don’t miss it.

Tuesday, Nov 30: The War of Emperium

Warning: If you ain’t familiar with Ragnarok Online, skip this.

Every Tuesday, the War of Emperium took place. I decided to leave my guild temporarily and join a stronger guild this time. I made a good choice since my new guild and I could take a castle, Valkrie 3. After hunting in the guild dungeon for a while, my new guild master asked me to stay in the guild longer. It was a good offer actually, but I had promised that I would only leave my old guild temporarily and would come back later, so I refused the offer.

Wednesday – Thursday, Dec 1 – 2: Boring

Nothing really happened in this periode. Boring as usual.

Friday, Dec 3: Is StarOne Good?

These days, I really couldn’t leave without the Internet. I read news, contact others, work, study, and play on the Net. Therefore, I need my own connection to the Net. Dial Up connection is evil. It is slow and hella expensive. Can you imagine? Almost 10,000 rupiahs per hour for a connection at 56 kbps maximum . Cable Internet is also ridiculous. The cable provider need me to register with the cable television first before getting the Internet connection. What the heck will I need the cable television for since I hardly have time to watch the television. DSL, the rising star in the Internet connection, is so damn expensive. 300,000 and 1.5 million rupiahs per month for 500 MB and unlimited bandwith respectively. Not mentioning that most, if not all, Indonesian Internet Service Provider suck.

Recently, in an online gaming forum, some people suggested frequent Internet users to use StarOne. StarOne is actually a CDMA operator. It offers an unlimited internet connection for only ~300,000 rupiahs per month. It’s cheap. Unfortunately some of the users complained about its unreliability. Gosh….

Saturday, Dec 4: Social Day

Around 10 AM in the morning, some colleagues and I visited Sinta. There were Anton, Bambang, Lisa Gunawan, Jon, Yustina, and Yunus. She just had a baby. A boy. She was so protective that she asked us to wash our hands and feet before we saw her baby. Soon, Shirley Wibisono and Yendy joined.

After spending some times there, we tried to find some food while Yunus went home. I suggested Vivi‘s place which was nearby. They seemed satisfied with the food and I was satisfied because I could see her after quite some times. She was pretty as usual. Lucky me, she was making some cookies and she let me have some.

After eating, Jon decided to go home while the rest of us wanted to visit Stephanie at Adi Jasa. Her grannie recently passed away. Since she would be there at around 3 PM and at the moment it was 1 PM, Shirley asked us to visit her home and wait there. While others were playing PS2, I fixed Shirley’s computer. She said it couldn’t connect to the Internet. Finally I could fix the computer and asked Shirley to fight me in Tekken 4. I lost the first fight but won the rest two fights.

Around 2.30 PM, we headed for Adi Jasa. After waiting for the church service for about half an hour, we finally met Stephanie. Honestly, she doesn’t look so sad. She maybe not so closed to her grannie. We went home at about 4 or 5 PM. Well, enough for today, I went straight home after taking Lisa to her house. See ya!

The Church Retreat

Sorry I haven’t written anything in a pretty long time so here it is. My real life doesn’t change as much as I expected that I couldn’t find anything to write. Works, games, comics, movies were really the only things I did lately. The only things different from my routines is on November 15-16, when the Moslems in my country celebrated the “Idul Fitry” day. The government decided that the two days were holidays. Some organizations, not where I work, even made the whole week holidays.

Like other holidays or vacations, I went to Jember to meet my parents and sister. But things rather different this time. GKT Jember, where I usually worshipped God, participated in a 4-days and 3-nights retreat at ITA Lawang about two weeks ago. My sis and I participated too along with about 10 other friends from Jember and Bondowoso. I didn’t get to excited on the kind of thing, but I did hope I would get something there.

Day 1: Get Started

We arrived at Lawang at about 10 AM. Just before the lunch time. A perfect timing. We weren’t the first group that arrived, but we did come early since the opening ceremony was at 5 PM. I explored ITA a while. Things changed a lot since my last visit. Of course it was about 10 years ago hehe. I hardly remembered anything. After a short chitchat with some new guys in the dining room, I decided to go to my dorm and rest.

Ah the opening ceremony, finally all the boring things got started. Um wait a sec’. Boring? What about the girl sitting in front of you? No make that two. They were just fantastic. Gosh I got to know them. A guy beside me asked me to exchange our addresses and phone numbers. No problem, it was so usual in that kind of occassion.

Day 2: Meet the Parents

Really, aside from the sessions, I couldn’t find anything interesting at the retreat. How I missed my computer games. I had an idea, why not borrow a chess board and played some games with my roommate. Fortunately, an old friend of mine were studying at ITA, so I didn’t get any difficulty getting the chess board. I was playing the second game with a roommate in the front park when suddenly a man and a woman came and watched our game. He commented our game but I didn’t give a shit since my side was winning.

Then the man got back to the car, took some snacks, and gaved them to us. Well, I thanked him and started a conversation to show my manner :D. I asked him whether he came to visit his kids? He said yes, as I expected. I asked him their names. He told me that he had three children, two girls and a boy. Their names are Susan, Ruth, and Yong Sin. Um, they sounded familiar. Oh my God, were Susan and Ruth the two attractive girls sitting in front of me the other night. And Yong Sin were the one who asked me to exchange my address and phone number.

Day 3: God, Help Me

Until day 3, I still couldn’t find any good chance to talk privately with the two girls. They were so popular that many people were around them. The sessions also didn’t give me enough free time. While having our lunch, I heard the sound of a guitar playing and I saw the girls sang Josh Groban‘s “You Raise Me Up” with their friends over and over. I see, they must like this song.

Day 4: Farewell

Oh no, this was the last day and I still couldn’t get enough attention from them. What should I do. Uh huh, I accidentally found that their brother loved to play Ragnarok Online. Great, I could use the information. Ah, I don’t know, maybe I’ll just go home and forget them in one or two weeks. Who knows? For now, just say goodbye to them.
