Sport and So Long
Sport time. Every Tuesday, I have a badminton practice at Dasa Digdaya, a badminton gym located near Plasa Marina in Margorejo. The gym is okay and in a good condition. It has five badminton fields and is surrounded by spectators’ seats. We must pay 200,000 rupiahs per month per field to play there for 3 hours per week. Of course we still need a bunch of shuttlecocks which cost around 30,000 per dozen. Not mentioning if my racket needs a replacement string. A hell lot of money at least for me. Fortunately, I don’t have to pay all by my self but share it with a group of players. You can’t play this sport alone, can you? I grouped with my long badminton buddy, Yoseph, and a former lecturer of mine with his pals. Yoseph and me are the youngest in the group but it really doesn’t matter since our skills are not under theirs :D. No bragging but we win a lot of times. Of course there are times when we did lose the games.
I do badminton regularly, about two or three times a week. Every Friday I do it with Yoseph and his college friends. Sometimes on Saturday, I play with my college friends and Yoseph, again :O. That’s why I called him my badminton buddy. He’s very good at it you know. Better than me especially when defending and catching the shuttlecocks up. He’s fast and agile although sometimes lacking the offensive power. That’s where I come to fill in the hole.
I did sport with my colleagues too, although it ain’t that frequent. Well, there was a game of indoor soccer at Kenjeran with the boys: Bambang, Freddy, Yunus, and their friends. I also brought along a friend of mine, guess who, Yoseph. This dude really loves sport. No sh**. There was some badminton games as well. This time the girls were in. Um, I recall that Carla, Dinny, Eva (the iyem one), Shirley (the cool one), Vannie, and Yenny joined the boys: Bambang, Jon, and Yunus. Freddy didn’t seem to like the game. He prefered swimming and body building. Bambang was the best of them. This li’l guy is good at sports. He also did nicely in the soccer game. With them, I played on a small badminton gym in Barata Jaya. It only cost about 5,000 rupiahs per hour per field, of course the shuttlecocks were not included. It only has two fields. Without the seats for spectators. Without wooden floor. Without good lighting at night. And without the Dasa Digdaya’s 200,000 price tag, hehehehe. We used to play at daylight where Jon couldn’t stop complaining the hot weather. Come on, for 5,000 rupiahs per hour we just couldn’t expect an air conditioner. Anyway, it was fun to play with your colleagues sometimes. Especially when some of them brought something to eat :D.
Today, two of my colleagues decided to resign. Eva (not the iyem one) at the middle of the month and Dinny at the end of the month. Both of them are going to stay in Jakarta. The former gets a new job while the latter because of her boyfriend, am I right? Recalling that just a few months ago the other two of my colleagues, Devi Sisca and Wiembardi also had resigned, the workplace will never be the same again. I’ll surely miss the mak-lampir-style-laughter of Eva. I’m not that close to Dinny but I think I’ll miss her as well as Devi Sisca and Wiembardi. Well anyway, good luck to all of you guys. Keep in touch. God bless you always.
